The traditional work format is quickly disappearing. In its place, today’s workers are choosing the freelance or gig model. More than 53 million people in the U.S. now calling themselves freelancers and working as small business owners.
The Struggle is Real
Although this new-found career freedom has yielded some significant benefits, many workers are faced with dramatic ups and downs in income figures each month. That means the one thing missing from what is otherwise a great way to work is the stability that a 9-to-5 weekly or biweekly paycheck job offers.
As one job suddenly ends or projects ebb and flow, monthly expenses remain the same. That has led some freelancers to fill in the gaps with credit cards and payday loans until the next great gig comes along.
